Joint exhibition opening for Images from Early Banana & Between Extremes: The Changing Landscapes of Gil Jamieson
Images from Early Banana
Images from Early Banana features archival film photography taken in the early 1920’s around the Banana area. These photographs were recently donated to the Banana Shire Historical Society by Joan Miller of Rockhampton. The archive illustrates the living conditions, social gatherings and industry of the early Banana township; the foundation for the modern-day Banana Shire.
Between Extremes: The Changing Landscapes of Gil Jamieson
Between Extremes features large scale paintings by artist Gil Jamieson (1934 - 1992) from the Monto Museum of Art collection. This display emphasises the cycle of change in the landscape, contrasting periods of drought with times of abundance. Jamieson’s expressive style tells narratives from his home on Three Moon Flats with emotive imagery. The collection explores Jamieson’s immersion in the landscape, and the interconnected relationship between people and the state of the land.
