Exhibition Proposals

The Banana Shire Regional Art Gallery accepts exhibition proposals year round. We encourage exhibitions by established artists, emerging artists, and group exhibitions.

Exhibitions are generally scheduled for a period of seven to nine weeks. The annual program may be scheduled up to two years in advance and bookings are subject to availability. We recommend contacting us in the initial stages of your planning to discuss your ideas further. Gallery staff offer curatorial assistance if required. 

The gallery has two exhibition spaces:

  • Main Gallery: suitable for large solo exhibitions and group exhibitions
  • Palm Tree Room: suitable for small solo exhibitions, emerging artists, small group shows and works requiring hanging from the ceiling.

Selection Criteria

Proposals are assessed according to the following selection criteria:

  • The exhibition relates to the unique character of the Banana Shire region and/or community

Quality of Exhibition
  • The exhibition demonstrates a clear exhibition concept and cohesive body of work
  • The artwork is of high artistic merit (shows a considered use of materials and techniques)

Diversity
  • The exhibition adds to a well-balanced schedule (accounting for medium, subject matter and/or artist representation)
  • The exhibition engages new or diverse audience
 25%
New Works and Originality
  • The exhibition approaches concepts and/or materials in an original and interesting way
  • The exhibition includes artworks that have not previously been publicly exhibited  
 15%

 

Fees

The Banana Shire Regional Art Gallery is hired to artists for the fees outlined in the 2024-2025 Fees and Charges
