Repairs Commence on Flood Damaged Sections of Rural Road Network
Council has engaged three local contractors to complete the work, which is funded by the State Government’s Queensland Reconstruction Authority.
Approximately $4.5 million will be spent to repair 160kms of gravel roads throughout the shire.
Contractors started work 11 December 2018 and are expected to complete their projects by 28 June 2019.
Banana Shire Mayor Nev Ferrier said Council was pleased to have received the funding from the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.
“The sections of these roads being fixed were damaged during the flood,” Cr Ferrier said.
“It has to be stressed that the funding can only be used to repair those specific sections of each road damaged during the rain event.
“It does not include the regular maintenance Council staff carry out as part of its road maintenance program.
“This work will be carried out as scheduled.
“For some roads this maintenance is conducted in accordance with the classification of the road.”
