Rates discount period extended
THE deadline for ratepayers to take advantage of the discount on their general rate has been extended.
At its August general meeting Banana Shire Councillors voted unanimously to extend the discount period by a month.
Ratepayers now have until 16 October, 2019 to take advantage of the 10% discount.
Banana Shire Mayor Nev Ferrier said the devastating effect of the drought on rural producers and those who rely upon the agricultural sector for income and business prompted Council to make the move.
“The entire shire is drought declared and many people are doing it particularly tough as a result of the prolonged dry,” Cr Ferrier said.
“By extending the discount period, ratepayers will have a little more time to pay off their rates and still capitalise on the discount being offered by Council.”
Cr Ferrier also urged rural producers to consider the drought assistance programs being offered by the State Government.
