Playgrounds, gardens and skate parks reopen
On Friday 8 May Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk released Queensland’s Roadmap to Easing COVID-19 restrictions.
The easing of restrictions is being progressed over three stages with Stage 1 commencing 16 May.
In accordance with this easing of restrictions, Council is also reopening some of its facilities and recommencing the delivery of some of its services that were ceased as a response to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
Council facilities that will be reopening tomorrow include:
• All public toilets
• All parks, gardens and playgrounds and skate parks
• Banana Shire’s Community Resource Centre
• Biloela Dog Park
All libraries across the shire will return to normal hours of operation on Monday 18 May, however there will be limitations on the number of people permitted into the libraries at any one time and visits to the libraries will be restricted to half hour blocks of time, unless the library member is using the computer for work inductions.
Banana Shire Mayor Nev Ferrier said it was great to see some of Council’s services returning to normal.
“But I cannot stress enough the need for everybody to adhere to the Government regulations, abide by the social distancing guidelines, continue to observe good hygiene practices and to listen to and obey any instructions given by Council staff in our libraries and other facilities,” Cr Ferrier said.
“The community has done a terrific job following all the rules and regulations to date and as a result we have had no reported cases of the virus in Banana Shire.
“Let’s not undo all this good work.”
Cr Ferrier said Council staff had been disinfecting all the facilities over the past week in preparation for their reopening and strict and regular cleansing would continue to be carried out as part of the plan to reduce the risk of the virus spreading.
The Banana Shire Regional Art Gallery will reopen as part of Stage 2 of the Roadmap on Monday 15 June.
Swimming pools and camping grounds remain closed at this stage.
