Wheelchair lift improves mobility
Banana Shire residents now have access to a mobile wheelchair lift.
The lift, valued at, $22,400 was tested by Moura High School student Jayden Fell and Banana Shire Councillor Brooke Leo in the Kianga Hall earlier this week.
The lift was purchased with the assistance of Drought Relief Funding.
The need for a wheelchair lift was identified after the Moura High School suggested that one be installed in the Kianga Hall to help people with a disability access the hall’s stage.
But rather than install a permanent lift in the Moura hall, Council decided to purchase one that could be transported to all areas of the shire when the need arises.
The lift is available for hire to community groups and people wishing to use Council halls and require disability access to the stages.
Banana Shire Council is able to transfer the lift to its halls and set it up for residents or groups wishing to use the new mobile wheelchair lift.
The lift can travel up to one metre in height.
A plinth was made by Launchbury’s Engineering at a height of 110mm to enable the lift to reach the height of the stage at the Kianga Memorial Hall in Moura.
