Melton park upgrade

Mini trampolines, drums and other sensory equipment will be included as part of Stage 2 of the redevelopment of the playground in Melton Park.

The equipment will be installed in the park later this year, replacing the maze which had to be demolished after being constantly damaged by vandals.

Over the past month Banana Shire residents were invited to participate in a community engagement survey to select what play equipment they would like installed in the park.

The engagement closed on Friday 8 January 2021.

Residents were asked to select from two shortlisted options which were carefully chosen to provide the most relevant and cost effective choices.

Of the 247 respondents who participated in the engagement survey 153 (61.94%) favoured Option A.

Future work in Melton Park will include a pathway and additional CCTV cameras.

Vandalism has been a big problem in the park in recent years. The improved and increased security cameras will be used to help curb this problem. Council also hopes that the community ‘adopts’ the redesigned park and that increased usage helps to deter vandals from damaging the facilities.
