Greycliffe Homestead Re-opens to the Public

Preserving Bileola’s History

After being closed for five months for repairs and maintenance, historic Greycliffe Homestead will be officially re-opened on Saturday 26th June by the Mayor of Banana Shire, Nev Ferrier.

Since December last year, extensive works were carried out by a Commonwealth Government drought relief grant to assist local trades and businesses through the tough times of the drought. Banana Shire Council managed the grant and oversaw the work carried out. The work included leveling, sanding of the floor and renewal of some floor boards and verandah, a new disability ramp and two new sets of stairs, and repairs to the roof. Other repairs entailed electrical work, a concrete path to the parking area, window re-glazing and repairing the fire place surrounds, and re-aligning of the slab walls.

Mayor of Banana Shire Nev Ferrier said he was happy that the Federal Government drought relief funding could help with the maintenance work needed for the repairs.

“It’s important to keep our historical museums maintained and safe for the public to enjoy and we are really happy with the outcome,” he added.

Greycliffe Homestead is the original family home of the Nott family, local pastoralists who owned and operated Greycliffe Station. The homestead is now located in Biloela and used as Biloela Historical Society headquarters. It is open to visitors by appointment.

The official opening will take place on Saturday 26th June at 10am at GreyCliffe Homestead followed by a morning tea afterwards. Members of the Historical Society look forward to hosting guided tours to the public to recreate how the Nott family lived from the 1870’s to the 1970’s.  Tours are conducted by appointment only.  To book a tour contact the Banana Shire Historical Society on (07 4992 3959)Greycliffe reopening
