2023 Banana Shire Australia Day Awards are now open for nominations. The 2023 Australia Day Celebrations will be hosted by the Jambin community on Thursday 26th January 2023.

The Australia Day Committee are now calling for nominations for the following categories:

• Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year

• Cultural and Junior Cultural – Artist and/or Arts Worker

• Volunteer of the Year

• Junior and Senior Sportsperson

• Sports Coach, Official and/or Administrator

• Community Group or Team

• Community Event of the Year

Banana Shire Mayor Nev Ferrier said that the high-profile awards gives the community an opportunity to recognise local residents and groups who contribute tirelelsly to the community.  

“The Australia Day Awards is an opportunity for us to shine the light on some incredible people and organisations who go above and beyond to help our community,” said Mayor Ferrier.   

Mayor Ferrier is urging members of the community to nominate individuals or groups this year. “It could be a coach, artist, community group, a great event or an individual that you know is doing great work serving our community,” he added.

The 2022 Banana Shire Citizen of the Year Award was given to no one more deserving than Robert Price from Baralaba who took out the award for his endless service to the community, with the QFES, fundraising events and personally helping out community members during difficult times.

Shire residents and organisations are asked to support these awards by nominating members of their community in appreciation of their efforts.

Nomination forms and an information pack can be found on Council’s website at https://www.banana.qld.gov.au/community/australia-day and hard copies are available from Council’s Customer Service Centres and Libraries.

Nominations close at 5pm Friday, 18 November, 2022.

The winners will be announced and awards presented at the 2023 Australia Day Celebrations which will be held in Jambin.
