Brigalow Festival Opens in Banana Shire

The Brigalow Arts Festival, Banana Shire’s longest standing visual arts awards festival opens at Banana Shire Regional Art Gallery on Friday 14th October. Proudly supported by Banana Shire Council, the 2022 Brigalow Arts Festival is entering its 26th year bringing together outstanding works from artists from Banana Shire and its surrounds.

 

Mayor of Banana Shire Nev Ferrier says the Festival brings opportunity for local artists to submit their work and take away prize money. “The Banana Shire has always had a vibrant artistic community and for the last 26 years the Brigalow Arts Awards have given artists from the Shire and beyond an opportunity to showcase their work and possibly take away some prize money”, said Mayor Nev Ferrier.

 

The annual Brigalow Arts Festival will be held at the Banana Shire Regional Art Gallery from 14th October. Artists from the Shire and its surrounds will have their work exhibited and on display to the public until November the 25th. This year’s theme is “Nature”.

 

Exhibits include photography, sculpture, installations, ceramics and paintings. Judges for the 2023 Festival are, Catherine Boreham and Jordga Hutcheon. Sarah Larsen a local multimedia Artist will be this year’s Festival Curator. Sarah has a long history with the Brigalow Arts Festival and has won several acquisition prizes and section’s over the years.

 

“The work that gets submitted is outstanding and really worth seeing,” said Mayor of Banana Shire, Nev Ferrier. “Make sure you get along to have a look.”

 

The Brigalow Arts Festival is a free event open to the public. Tickets for opening night are $10. Special weekend viewing hours Saturday 15th Oct and Sat 20 Nov 10am – 12pm. Weekend workshop being held with Judge of this year’s Brigalow and renowned Artist Catherine Boreham on Saturday 15th October. Organisers of this year’s Festival, the Banana Shire Art Gallery Association are looking for Volunteers who would like help with this year’s event.
