New Renewable Energy Landholder Toolkit supports Landholders in the Banana Shire
The Queensland Farmers Federation (QFF) have released a Renewable Energy Landholder Toolkit, designed to assist local landholders in making informed decisions about hosting renewable energy projects on their properties. Developed in collaboration with the Queensland Government, this comprehensive toolkit provides practical guidance and information to support landholders throughout the various stages of renewable energy infrastructure development.
With private sector investments and state government initiatives like the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan and Queensland SuperGrid Infrastructure Blueprint, Queensland is poised for significant growth in the renewable energy sector.
Banana Shire Council’s Mayor Nev Ferrier expressed his support, saying, "I encourage all landholders in Banana Shire to take advantage of this valuable resource. The Renewable Energy Landholder Toolkit equips our community members with essential information and guidance, helping landholders make informed decisions about hosting renewable energy projects. We are here to assist and encourage landholders to seek available help throughout the process."
QFF spokesperson, Jo Sheppard, emphasised the importance of the Toolkit in enabling landholders to navigate the decision-making process. "The Toolkit is an important resource for landholders as they work through the initial stages of being approached by developers right through to the next steps should they decide to proceed with the development on their property," said Ms. Sheppard.
The Toolkit was developed through extensive consultation with various stakeholders, including renewable energy project developers, government bodies, legal and financial professionals, and experienced landholders. It also addresses the opportunities and potential impacts that neighbouring farms and communities may experience when renewable energy projects are proposed in their vicinity.
The Renewable Energy Landholder Toolkit includes:
- Detailed checklists to facilitate negotiations with developers
- Practical guidance for each stage of renewable energy project development
- Insights from legal and financial professionals, government bodies, and experienced landholders
- Information on benefit sharing, community engagement, and social license considerations
- Access to extensive resources
Banana Shire Council extends its gratitude to the project steering committee, the Queensland Government, and all stakeholders involved in developing this valuable resource. As land use intensifies across the region, Banana Shire Council remains committed to supporting local landholders in navigating the opportunities and challenges associated with the renewable energy rollout.
