Runway Lights Rejuvenated at Baralaba Aerodrome:
A Boost for RFDS Flights
Banana Shire Council has undertaken a vital infrastructure upgrade by replacing the runway lights at Baralaba aerodrome. The operation, which took place in late August, aimed to address a number of non-operational lights, ensuring optimal safety and functionality for the aerodrome, especially for Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) flights.
The decision to replace the runway lights was prompted by the need to provide a secure and well-equipped landing environment for the essential RFDS flights that serve the community. With several lights out of operation, Council recognized the urgency of the situation and undertook a comprehensive replacement project.
"The safety of our aerial operations is paramount, especially when it comes to critical services like the RFDS flights," said Nev Ferrier, Mayor of Banana Shire Council. "The Baralaba aerodrome serves as a lifeline for our community and ensuring that its infrastructure is up to the highest standards is non-negotiable."
"The replacement of these runway lights not only improves the safety of operations but also underscores the commitment of the Banana Shire Council to the well-being of its residents," added Mayor Ferrier "We understand the vital role the aerodrome plays in emergency medical services and regional connectivity."
