Council has joined forces with major private sector partners on a mission to reshape the Shire’s economy towards a cleaner, greener future. The study will focus on building on Banana Shire’s existing strengths as well as preparing for the changes ahead. The study is important in addressing the critical issue of economic diversification, increasing productivity and growing business confidence in the Shire.

Building on the established champions of the local economy, encompassing industries of agriculture and horticulture, coal and metals mining, power generation, tourism and government services, the study will seek to revolutionise its core economic foundations.

Over the next six months the study will consider how the Shire can prepare for global changes, including demand for renewable energy, new ways of re-using resources, and reducing the pollution from business. 

As part of this study, Council is issuing a short survey to ALL local businesses welcoming valuable input to help shape this promising future. The survey would only take 1-2 minutes to complete, and Council highly encourages all businesses to participate.
