Banana Shire’s 2024 Australia Day Celebrations will move to Biloela, in lieu of the originally slated community, Taroom. This decision stems from Biloela's impending Centenary Celebrations in 2024, setting the stage for a year of celebrations for the town. Banana Shire Council has embraced this change of host community for the 2024 celebrations. The decision was officially ratified during the October ordinary meeting, cementing Biloela's role as the host for this much-anticipated event. The 2024 Australia Day Celebrations in Biloela will take place on Friday, 26th January at the Biloela Showgrounds.

"We are incredibly thankful for the Taroom community's wholehearted support for this decision to delay their turn to host celebrations," stated Banana Shire Council Mayor Nev Ferrier.

In early 2023, the Biloela Centenary Advisory Committee put forth a formal request for Biloela to assume the hosting duties for the 2024 celebrations. The committee's vision is to incorporate this change into a comprehensive calendar of events that will showcase Biloela's upcoming centenary.

The annual Banana Shire Australia Day Celebrations follow a rotating schedule, ensuring that all communities within the Shire take their turn in the limelight as per the Australia Day Celebrations policy.

To ensure transparency and garner community support for this change, a proposal was thoughtfully presented to the Taroom community through their elected member Cr Terri Boyce.  The Taroom community has expressed wholehearted support for this change, underscoring the mutual respect and solidarity among the Shire's communities.

The official Banana Shire Australia Day festivities will feature a Poet’s Breakfast, commencing at 7 a.m., followed by an Awards and Citizenship Ceremony from 9 am. The celebration will continue with a free family fun day, lasting until 2 pm. In the evening, the festivities will come full circle with a thrilling Rodeo event hosted by Yes Banana Shire.

In 2024 the Australia Day festivities will include a special recognition of the historical significance of the Banana Shire, particularly in light of the upcoming centennial celebrations planned in various townships within the Shire. In 2024, Biloela is set to mark its own series of exciting events throughout the year.
