Banana Shire Council is pleased to announce that Professor Veena Sahajwalla, a globally recognised leader in sustainable materials science, will be visiting Biloela to participate in the AUKUS Forum business workshop. This free event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 9th July at Hotel Settlers, Biloela where Professor Sahajwalla will share her innovative approaches to recycling and sustainable manufacturing with Central Queensland industry leaders.
The AUKUS Forum in Biloela represents a significant opportunity for local businesses to learn about new opportunities from AUKUS. Banana Shire Council invites all interested businesses especially those within the manufacturing and environmental sectors, to attend this transformative event. It is a chance not only to gain insights from a world-leading experts, but also to network and explore potential collaborations for sustainable growth.

About Professor Veena Sahajwalla:
Professor Veena Sahajwalla, a distinguished innovator and environmental pioneer and is internationally recognised for her groundbreaking work in recycling science. Her creation, GreenSteel, an eco-friendly steel production process, uses recycled plastics and rubber tyres instead of coal. This innovative approach reduces the carbon footprint of steel production and cuts down on industrial waste and greenhouse gas emissions globally.
Further enhancing her portfolio of sustainable technologies, Professor Sahajwalla has introduced the concept of microfactories. These compact, modular recycling units are designed to convert electronic waste, plastics, and other materials into high-value resources and products, effectively promoting sustainable manufacturing practices.
Professor Sahajwalla serves as a judge on ABC TV’s "The New Inventors," and has been featured on programs including Q&A, The Drum, Raw on Waste, and Australian Story. Her work and vision earned her the title of 2022 NSW Australian of the Year.
