Biloela100 Gala Weekend: Celebrating a Century October 4th - 6th,  2024

Published: 6th September 2024

The community of Biloela is excited to announce the Biloela100 Celebrations with a weekend full of festivities from October 4th to 6th. The town invites both residents and visitors to participate in these events, which aim to honour Biloela’s past and vibrant community life through activities designed for all ages. The celebrations are a culmination of a year-long effort by a local committee and community members to showcase the spirit and history of Biloela.

The weekend kicks off on Friday, October 4th, with a party all over town "Meet and Greet" and the official opening of the Brigalow Arts Festival at the Banana Shire Regional Art Gallery. Saturday features the lowering of a time capsule at Melton Park, outdoor markets, and heritage tours at Kilburnie Homestead and Greycliffe Homestead. The day concludes with a Black-Tie Ball at the Civic Centre, where attendees can enjoy live entertainment performed by 2 bands, 3 bars and canapés.

Mayor Nev Ferrier expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "It's been a fantastic journey to this centennial celebration, and I am proud of our community's dedication to making this event memorable. Congratulations to the committee for their tireless work in organizing a weekend that truly represents the spirit of Biloela."

Sunday’s Family Fun Day at the Queensland Heritage Park will feature a Poets Breakfast, a Grand Parade with prizes, free amusement rides, games for children, and live entertainment, culminating in the ceremonial cutting of the 100-year birthday cake.

Additionally, the Biloela Centenary Advisory Committee has published “Some of the People and Their Stories,” a collation of stories submitted by local families, available for $20 at selected retailers in Biloela.

"We are excited to invite everyone to join us for the Biloela100 Gala Weekend," said Wayne Kirwan, Chairman of the Biloela Centenary Advisory Committee. "This event promises to be a spectacular celebration of our town's rich history and vibrant community spirit."
